Unsatisfactory Slips

Std 5
I checked your test already, but someone in your class hasn’t taken the test as yet.  This means that i can't give it back tomorrow.  4 people failed.  Those of you who passed did really well.  The average grade was 87.8%.  I am loving that, but I am still upset that some of you are failing these tests.  Please remember that next week Unsatisfactory Slips will be sent home.  I don’t think that you all will have any more Reading tests before then, so there isn’t anything you can do about your current Reading grade.  You can make up your mind to do better on your next tests and assignments, though.
Std 6
You will have a test on “Gentleman of Rio en Medio” on Wednesday.  This story is very short, so you can read it more than once.  Please do so!!!  I will try to include it in the grades for Unsatisfactory Slips which will be sent home next week.  Just a reminder!!!

Std 5

Remember to do your home work and study for all those tests you have tomorrow.  My HW is just questions 1 - 4 in the Thinking About the selection after  the story"The Luckiest Time of All".  Remember we have a test on this story on Tuesday, Oct. 5th.

Std. 6

Home work today is the Vocabulary Builder page of "Gentleman of Rio en Medio" in the workbook.  Not sure what page number that is exactly, but if you can follow those instructions I am sure you will find the right page.
I am very proud of Std 6PR because everybody in that class passed my Test on "Raymond's Run".  The average grade is 90%.  You all listened.... I am so proud : )
Std 6CM did well too, but 2 people failed. : (  Even so your average grade is 87%.

What did you do today?

Std. 5

Please remember to do your Vocab home work.  Please remember  that your sentences need to show that you understand the meaning of the words.

Std. 6

I know that you all are broken-hearted because you missed your Test today.  Believe me, so am I.  Since you didn't, maybe you should read the story again.  You know that you will get the test when we get back to school.  It looks like that will be on Monday.  Since you already studied (I hope!), read the story again.  You never know, you might read somethnig about Squeaky you didn't read before.

Study Habits

Std. 5
So how was the test?  Pretty easy, right?  It's all over now!!!  If you feel like you didn't do well, you know that means you need to study harder or listen better, or read more.  You can make up your mind to do all those things for the next test.  Then we'll see what happens.

Std. 6
After you have finished studying for your test on Raymond's Run which you will get on Friday, tune up those voices.  and get ready to sing.

TESTS, TESTS, TESTS

Std. 5

Please remember that you have a test on" Papa's Parrot" on Wednesday.  You have known for a week now so it shouldn't stop you from going out and enjoying Independence Day.  Make sure you read the story at least 1 more time.

Std. 6

Your test on Raymond's Run will be on Friday.  That does not mean we won't have Writers' Workshop.  We'll just have it on Thursday.  Get your throats ready because we will be singing.

Harry & Squeaky

I love these 2 characters!
Std 5
Harry is a great kid, but like most of us, he doesnt think about things until they are stuffed right up in our faces.  He didnt realize that his father missed him until he heard Rocky saying it over and over.  Then, it hit him - his father must have been saying those words over and over and that is how the parrot could imitate it.  It's good to see that when he realized it, he changed.
For HW tonight you are to do the Thinking About the Selection found on the page immediately following the story.  Do numbers 1-5 but you dont need to do letter c in number 5.  skip number 6 and do the rest of the exercise.  Come prepared to answer and to defend your answers.
  • TEST on "Papa's Parrot" is set for next week Wednesday, the 22nd.
  • Remember your Enrichment paper is due on Thursday.

Std. 6
Tell me you are not enjoying Squeaky and all her antics!!!  She is so funny.  I know a few of your teachers who were just like her when they were in Primary school.  Ask a few of them if they used to fight with and beat up the boys.  You'd be surprised to know who they are and i dont mean me!!!!
Remember your Enrichment Paper is due on Monday.

September 13th, 2010

Std. 5
I gave an "Enrichment Exercise" on Parrots today.  Please be sure to do it and make sure you have it ready for Thursday as that it is when it is due.  We looked at using context clues to understand words or pharases you are not familiar with in class today.  We also looked at narrative writing and what makes something a narrative.
If you have not passed in your home work sheet on Similes and Metaphors, please be sure that you do it and pass it in.  You will not be able to get all your points, but at least you will get some.

Std. 6
The "Enrichment Exercise" that you all received is on Down's Syndrome and the Special Olympics.  It is due on Mon. Sept. 20th.
I really enjoy Squeaky and all the crazy things she says.  She is funny and brave and strong.  I hope you all are enjoying her as much as I am.

Std 5

Today we finished going over your vocabulary words.  Please start going over these words along with the 2 words thast are in the Workbook which is your HW for tonight.  This means that you will have to study 12 words for your test on "Papa's Parrot".  Tomorrow we will look at your Reading Skill and Literary Analysis for the story.

Std 6

We have gone over your Reading skill which is "Making Predictions".  We also discussed the Literary Analysis skill which is all about PLOT.  We discussed the Exposition, risisng action, climax, falling action and resolution in a story.  The discussion on Down's Syndrome was very interesting and I am glad to see that you all are so interested in this topic.  I guess i'll give you some Enrichment work on this topic. ; ) Yeah! Vocabulary Home Work

I see that you all are posting your comments on the blog, which i like.  The comments are mostly silly things which i dont like. GRRRR! But post away.  No harm, no foul.
Your 10 Vocabulary words are from the story "Raymond's Run".  Please remember that you need to write the meanings of the words and a sentence that shows that you know what the word means.
This is very touching story about a girl and her "little" brother who has Down's Syndrome.   I know that when you do read the story, you will like it.  I say that because a lot of you have posted that you dont like the story, but i dont think that you actually read it.  You'll see!!!

Welcome Back

Hi Guys,
Welcome back to school.  Did you miss me?  I missed you all.  Let's see if we can get this year off right.  We'll all do our home work, listen in class, and read ahead. I am really looking forward to this year and all it entails especially for you all in Std. 6.
I will try to put your home work on this blog so you all can see it and do it, if you forgot to write down in your diary or forgot your diary at school or some such nonsense.  I can't promise that i will blog everyday, but i will try.
